Last few days someone posted a deal on flights from KEF (Reykjavik airport) to China for less than US$2k. Actually I found an interesting routing going from Reykjavik, Iceland to Lhasa, Tibet with the following itinerary: KEF-AMS-CAN-CKG-LXA with the return LXA-CKG-CAN-CDG-KEF for around $2.1k. All in Business class with the major sectors AMS-CAN operated by China Southern (in an A330) and CAN-CDG (in a B777) by Air France. All in all, it was a pretty good deal since it connected 2 exotic destinations even if the business class cabin in either long-haul planes are not that spectacular.
But the more spectacular part if when I fiddled around and got a routing from KEF to NRT with a layover in FRA (Frankfurt) or MUC (Munich). The price was at $3.8k but the flights between FRA/MUC and NRT was in First Class. I came up with the following itinerary. Remember when I mentioned that ANA First Square was retailing around the same price between NRT and LAX? Well it seems that FRA-NRT is pretty affordable too!
While it is not spare change, but $3.8k to experience F cabins of both Lufthansa and All Nippon Airways is a good value in my opinion. The only drawback is that when routing through MUC, the F cabins are older versions in both airlines. However the planes serving FRA have the newest cabins and I even see availability in the Lufthansa A380 operating between FRA and NRT.
