Travelling frequently on airplanes on medium to long haul routes means that I watch many movies on the plane instead on the ground. In this case, I actually got to watch a trailer for this movie, and never heard of the movie prior to my flight. Once I got hold of this movie, it did not disappoint and I would rate it as one of the best movies of 2012. In addition to this movie being a highlight, I think this motion picture also showcases Joseph Gordon-Levitt as one of Hollywood’s leading stars in 2012. Many viewers will remember this actor as the one potraying ‘Robin’ in the last installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy.
For a start, he will be the star in the show as ‘Wilee’, a bike messenger based in Manhattan that unwillingly gets picked to deliver a parcel that made him become the target of a crooked cop. As the title of the show suggests, there are plenty of action scenes with bikes whizzing past the streets of New York. Some of the slo-mo scenes also provides viewers an excellent perspective from the seat of the bike.
While Joseph Gordon-Levitt does take up nearly all of the screen time in the movie, I think the screenwriter managed quite a feat to condense all the events transpiring in the plot over the working period of a bike messenger. Naturally there were some flashback scenes that provides viewers a look into the historical account of events that leads to the exciting chase around Manhattan for a parcel. The best part was how the director manages to keep the suspense till the end and making viewers curious as to what that ‘parcel’ contains.
In summary, the action cinematography is one of the best I have seen and the momentum of the movie makes for an enjoyable afternoon that will leave viewers in their seat throughout the duration of the movie. And through this movie, I did discover the talented Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
